MacLaren Lounge Chair

The MacLaren is a lounge chair on the smaller side, and that is rather the point. It slips into rooms that fuller-figured lounges cannot enter without apology—the corner of a study, the foot of a bed, the back of a guest room one prefers to call a snug. The frame is campaign in its bones, with arms of English bridle leather rather than wood: hand-cut, hand-stitched, and certain to deepen over the years the way a good belt or a well-kept saddle does. The seat sits low, the cushion square and generously so, available either segmented or blind-tufted as the humor of the moment dictates.

It belongs to a family that began as a bar chair, turned in due course to dining, then to a small collection of stools, and at last—sharing its geometry with the Chatwin Lounge Grand 1—to this lounge. A frame, when its proportions are honest, has a way of being drafted into more than one job over the years.

The MacLaren does not announce itself when one walks into the room, and yet by the third visit one has already chosen it. The dog will have noticed first.
