Lambert Folding Screen - Type 2
The Type 2 is the most architectural of our screens — a clean grid of hardwood with leather panels set within it, identical on both faces, equally composed whether seen from the entry or from the room it divides. It stands in the middle of a space as comfortably as it stands against a wall, which is why it has become the version most often specified for open-plan rooms.
The leather panels are set into the wooden frame, recessed slightly behind it — the wood forms the grid, the leather sits within it. The bridle straps are a decorative detail — a nod to the campaign furniture the Lambert descends from.
Over the years clients have found a surprising number of uses for the Lambert. As a true center-room divider, freestanding and finished on both sides; as an accent standing flat against a wall, where it reads almost as a hung composition; as a low partition wrapping a seating area; and, full height, as a backdrop behind an upholstered headboard, the grid rising above the bed as a piece of quiet architecture.For those who want the look built specifically for the bed, we also make it as the Lambert Boiserie, a wall-mounted version sized to the bed and beyond.
We have made them from sixty-eight inches wide (a counter-height partition concealing a kitchen from the dining room) to one hundred sixty-two inches wide (a four-panel at eight feet tall, the largest Type 2 we have built). Three panels and up, in standard and custom dimensions.
The Type 2 differs from the Lambert Folding Screen Type 1, whose panels wrap a single field of leather or fabric around the frame, belted down at the rails. On the Type 1 those straps do real work, holding the wrapped panels in place; on the Type 2, with the panels set into the frame, the straps are free to be purely decorative. The Type 1 also reads differently front to back — a finished face and a working face — where the Type 2 is identical on both sides.
