Lambert Boiserie
The Lambert Boiserie is a modular wall panelling system — a grid of hardwood and upholstered panels, fixed to the wall, that turns the head of a room into architecture. It takes the language of our Lambert folding screens — the same frame, the same inset panels, the same bridle-leather straps — and holds it still against the wall, scaled past the width of any one piece of furniture to define the wall itself.
Boiserie is the old French word for fine wall woodwork, the panelling that lined the rooms of eighteenth-century houses. The Lambert brings that idea forward in a campaign idiom: panels upholstered in leather or fabric rather than carved in oak, strapped and framed in the vocabulary of a travelling trunk rather than a salon. The effect is the same — a wall that has been considered, given texture and rhythm and depth — arrived at by a different route.
Most often it stands behind the bed, where it reads at first as an oversized headboard and then, as the eye follows it past the nightstands and on across the wall, as something larger: a paneled backdrop that gathers the bed, the lighting, and the bedside tables into a single composition. It can be specified to run the full width of a wall, and built to accommodate integrated reading lights and outlets where they're wanted. But it is not bound to the bedroom — the same system suits a dining wall, an entry, or any room that would be better for an architectural skin rather than a flat painted plane.
The frame is offered in any of our woods, from pale oak to ebonized walnut; the panels in the full library of upholstery leather and fabric; the straps in the range of English bridle-leather colors. Because it is fixed rather than folding, the panels can be more generously upholstered than a screen's, and the proportions drawn to the exact measurements of your wall.
