Chatwin Settee
The Chatwin Settee may well be the first of its kind. The Roorkhee was always a single chair—a campaign piece by definition, scaled for one officer and his evening—and the form does not, on the face of it, ask to be widened. But the temptation, once the Lounge had been at work in the collection long enough, proved difficult to leave alone. Richard could not quite resist turning the lounge into a settee, and so he did. It descends, in other words, from the Chatwin Lounge, simply pulled wide enough for two.
It is offered in three heights. The lounge settee is the one a room more often calls for: along the wall of a library, at the end of a long hall, in the corner of a sitting room where a sofa would crowd and a single chair would not quite suffice. The bar settee is the rarer animal—made for the kitchen island long enough to accommodate it, or the bar built for two. The spectator settee, rarer still, is reserved for rooms with a pool table—built to a height from which one can follow the rail across the felt without standing, the foot finding the chair's rail without having to look for it. Its single-seat companion, the Chatwin Spectator Chair, keeps company along the wall, for the player between shots or the spectator who has not yet been talked into playing.
In all three heights, the geometry of the Lounge holds: same proportions, same English bridle leather strapping in tension across the frame, same logic of joinery, simply doubled.
