Chatwin Lowback Swivel Stool
The Lowback is the quietest of the Chatwin swivel stools, the Round Swivel having dispensed with a back altogether. Where the Tallback sits upright in formal company, and the Finnback wraps the sitter in something more enveloping, the Lowback meets the back at the lumbar and goes no further. The shoulders remain free; the sightline across the counter is uninterrupted; the stool slips beneath the overhang when the kitchen has gone to bed.
It is the version one chooses when the room is meant to be the room one looks at—where a row of taller stools would crowd the view to the cooktop or to the windows beyond, or where the kitchen has been designed to be seen rather than punctuated. For the same reason, it is the one that fits most quietly into a busy plan: the bar at the edge of an open kitchen, the butler's pantry, the counter where the stool ought to be there when wanted and not when not.
