Carden Round
The Carden was drawn first as a rectangle. It wasn't long, though, before clients began asking to have the design translated — round, then oval, and in time elliptical and racetrack as well. It took to the change without complaint: the crossed brace and brass hardware that give the rectangular table its character carry just as easily into a curve.
A round or oval top has its own sociability — no head of the table, every guest gathered into one conversation. The Carden is made in any of these shapes, in a wide range of hardwoods, with brass or without, and always to custom dimensions — the diameter or length drawn to the room and to the number of chairs it must seat. The elliptical and oval can be given a hidden leaf as well, extending for a larger gathering without breaking the line. The rectangular table remains, of course, and the same design narrows into a console against the wall.
Every Carden is made to order. After we receive the chair dimensions and quantity, we determine the appropriate leg spacing and prepare shop drawings.
