O.F.S. Dining Chair
The O.F.S. Dining Chair began as something smaller and more particular — one of the two folding field chairs tucked into the leather-clad trunk of the Officer's Field Set, the suite we built with Ghurka in 2015 to mark their fortieth year, and which debuted at Fortnum & Mason that autumn. The chair was meant to come out of the boot of a motorcar, be set upon a place with a view, and folded away again before the light went.
It wasn't long before a client asked whether we could draw it as a dining chair.
So we did — a touch taller in the back, the seat sized for a proper dinner rather than a flask of something restorative, the joinery refined for daily use. We kept what mattered: the folding mechanism for those who still want it, the sling-and-cushion construction, the two bridle-leather straps across the backrest, the option to specify the chair with or without visible hardware.
The result is a dining chair that reads as architecture from across the room and as comfort once you've sat down in it. Twenty-six woods, the full leather and fabric library, hardware from natural brass to gun-metal stainless. The folding version still folds — flat to ten and three-quarter inches, the same as it ever did, should you wish to pack the chairs into the back of an estate car and take dinner somewhere else.
