MacLaren Dining Chair - Type 01

The MacLaren Dining Chair, drawn at the request of Jeffrey Alan Marks, is the bar chair brought down to dining height—same frame, same English bridle leather arm straps, same cushion resting on a sling of leather or fabric tightened with leather belts, the seat yielding under the sitter as it does in the bar chair, the way a well-made saddle does.

The chair reads, like the rest of the MacLaren family, as if it might fold; it does not. The crossing legs and leather strapping are the visual language of the campaign tradition, but here the joints are fixed and braced for the long life of a dining chair—a chair sat in for the meals that matter, where our kinships endure. The reference is honored; the function is permanent.

The arm straps fall where the forearm tends to settle during a meal that wants to last past dessert. The chair makes good company at a long table as a side, and pairs unobjectionably with the Cabourn at the heads when a hint of contrast is wanted.
