The Cabourn Counter and Bar Chairs is the Cabourn Dining Chair raised — the same frame, the same English bridle leather belts holding everything together, the same compact usefulness, only with longer legs. The counter version sits comfortably at a kitchen island; the bar version reaches the height where a martini is poured. If the dining chair conceals its stool DNA beneath tidy domestic posture, the counter and bar versions admit what they are: candid, well-mannered perches built for the surface around which a household actually gathers. The arms double as leg rests at this height — a useful piece of geometry that becomes obvious after an evening spent leaning on them. Named, like its siblings, for Nigel Cabourn — the British designer whose archives have always made the case that expedition wear is, at its best, simply the kit that quietly does its job. The counter chair, we like to think, is doing its. Available in counter and bar heights, in folding or non-folding versions, and made to any height in between.
