Matthiessen Side Table - Type 1

The X-frame is an old idea. Expedition furniture for travelers who moved light—tables that folded, chairs that nested, everything designed to pack flat and survive the journey.

Peter Matthiessen understood this. That restlessness requires its own furniture. It's a side table with a memory of travel, built for the corner of a study or the end of a sofa.

American walnut, ash, white oak—twenty-six woods in all, from pale to near-black. The frame is joined with English bridle leather in six colors: black, dark chocolate, Havana, saddle, cognac, coach. For broader color possibilities, upholstery leather can be selected—laminated and stitched to maintain the strength of the strap while opening the palette.

The tray lifts clear. Optional handles, wrapped and stitched by hand. Fabric or leather slings attached by leather belts can be chosen as a platform for the tray.

Standard: 25 inches square, 27 inches high. Custom dimensions upon request.
