Cabourn Sail Chair - Folding
The back is the reason for the name. Taut and taller than a dining chair has any need to be, it reads from across a room as canvas under tension — and aboard the yacht it was drawn for, in teak with white leather upholstery and Coach English bridle leather strapping, it stopped reading as a figure of speech altogether.
Everything else is Cabourn: the same frame, the same strapping, the same seat you would find on the dining chair, only asked to carry rather more above it.
Ashore, and in a darker wood, the reference recedes and something else takes over. The chair holds a corner. It takes a room's attention without asking for it. It makes a dining table rather more ceremonious than the table strictly intended — which is what tall backs have always done, on land and at sea both.
