Chatwin Dining Chair 02
Named for a writer and wanderer who understood that the best journeys end at a table, the Chatwin began as the Roorkhee chair in 1890s India. Indian engineers created it for the British - a chair that could be dismantled, carried, and reassembled wherever camp was pitched.
When Richard developed this chair, he maintained its 19th century character while making it more contemporary. He kept what mattered - the portability, the logic of the joinery, the tautness of leather and wood in tension - while refining the pitch of the back, the depth of the seat, the way the cushion meets the frame. Richard Wrightman Design has been making the Chatwin for over twenty years.
The seat is fully upholstered. One slides into it easily with room to cross one's legs after dinner, that particular luxury of a chair made for lingering. The backrest wraps around the back at the angle the body naturally seeks. Leather arm straps can be adjusted to preference.
Available in American and tropical hardwoods with hand-applied finishes. Over 200 leathers and fabrics, or your own material. Made to specification. The luxury lies in the attention to detail and the comfort one discovers when sitting.
